Look, we all know it’s coming. We’ll have to merge Battle.net accounts with our WoW account names before too much longer. We see the writing on the wall. But dudes, do you really have to just sorta “oopsie” it upon us? I mean, I go to log on for my raid, get hung up in authentication, and see a late-breaking news bulletin that says the authentication service is spotty. Fine so far. I wait, I retry. I am patient. Hodir will wait. He and his nasssty ice will crush my delicate Tauren frame sooner or later.
Then I hear in vent that my raidmates had to merge their accounts to log on. I worry. I’ve been holding off for so long… not ready to make the committment, not ready to leave my beloved logon name. I hear them polling gchat, and sadly no one logged on does NOT have a merged account. So sad.
And so I go to the sad task of merging my accounts. Why sad? Because I liked my logon name. It was a big deal to me the day I created it. I would see that name greet me every time I logged on! I thought about it. I patted myself on the back for it. I snickered over it. And now it’s going away, replaced by my stupid email address that came from desperation and already-taken email handles.
Yes! Remember my Account Name! Remember it well!! Go to the stars, account name! Logon not gently into that Death Knight!
So I bid farewell, perhaps before its time, to my silly little logon name. I’ll miss you. Maybe I’ll resurrect you to be a banking logon or a forum username somewhere in the future. Sigh. Sleep well, little logon.
